The third edition of Madrid de Cine has also been a great success in terms of showing Spain’s audiovisual production to the international press. 20 journalists of 10 different countries together with correspondents from America and Europe have held around 200 interviews with 54 actors and directors from the 24 films at the international press junkets, specially focusing on those movies that had a confirmed premiere in their countries.

Not only leading newspapers, radio stations and televisions from Europe such as Franckfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Herald Tribune, Diario de Noticias from Portugal, German National Radio send their journalists to report on Madrid de Cine, but also media attending the market for the first time, like Athens News and Greek National Television from Greece, La Libre Belgique, Vers l’avenir and De morgen from Belgium and FilmA Doba from the Czech Republic or correspondents from México, Venezuela and other Latin American countries.

The international press junkets allowed the media not only to interview directors and actors “on the spot” but to arrange interviews for upcoming events, such as the one agreed by the Tribune’s correspondent with film director J.L. Guerín at the Edinburgh Festival or the commitment agreed by Esquire to write an in-depth article on actress Pilar López de Ayala, the main character of “En la ciudad de Sylvia” Madrid de Cine has also allowed international press to gain a general overview of the Spanish production and to view at the video library, films that haven’t been released yet in their respective countries. As Robert Chilcott, online editor of British magazine VERTIGO, pointed out: “During these days I’ve discovered new directors with an impressive cinematography”. Some journalist have even proposed a few films to be screened in festivals at their respective countries (the correspondent from Squire has recommended “Un novio para Yasmina” to the Glasgow Festival, for instance); or to be acquired (Eurico de Barros, culture editor of Diario de Noticias strongly recommended Mataharis to one of the most important Portuguese distributors).

The films that have aroused a bigger interest on the international press have been Caótica Ana, El Rey de la Montaña, Los Cronocrímenes, El Pollo, el pez y el cangrejo real, Las 13 Rosas and Mataharis.

MADRID DE CINE is therefore established as the international platform for the promotion of Spanish Cinema, aiming at fostering international sales and paving the way for international press to view our cinema and to have access to our actors, directors and producers.
